About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing deciduous and citrus fruit, developing relationships with suppliers and farmers, negotiating prices, and implementing seasonal programs. A strong understanding of local and international growers and packhouses is essential for this role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Purchasing of high-quality fruit and vegetables with a focus on deciduous produce
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and farmers
- Negotiating prices and terms with growers and packhouses
- Implementing seasonal programs to meet client demands
- Ensuring quality control measures are in place
- Resolving claims and negotiating settlements with clients
- Providing regular updates on fruit and vegetable availability and range to business development managers
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in procurement, with a proven track record of building relationships and negotiating successfully. Strong knowledge of fruit and vegetable seasonality, quality standards, and exportation processes is also required.
RequirementsTo succeed in this role, you will need:
- Extensive knowledge of local and international fruit and vegetable growers and packhouses
- At least 5 years' experience in procurement or a related field
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Able to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong computer and Excel skills, with experience in reporting and presentations
- A never-give-up attitude and a proactive approach to problem-solving
