Job Summary

The Provincial Inspector: Traffic Law Enforcement will be responsible for enforcing and ensuring Road Traffic Law Enforcement, Public Passenger and Transport legislation. This includes implementing planned and approved traffic law enforcement activities/operations, coordinating and safeguarding accident scenes, and ensuring the free flow of traffic through point duty and traffic control.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Enforce and ensure Road Traffic Law Enforcement, Public Passenger and Transport legislation
  2. Implement planned and approved traffic law enforcement activities/operations
  3. Coordinate and safeguard accident scenes
  4. Ensure the free flow of traffic through point duty and traffic control
  5. Escort abnormal vehicles and loads to ensure safe movement thereof
  6. Execute high visibility policing and ensure crime prevention activities
  7. Execute overload screening and control at weighbridges
  8. Perform all administrative activities and related duties

Requirements

  • Must be in possession of a Basic Traffic Diploma from a training institution accredited by the RTMC
  • Must have a valid Code B/EB (or higher) manual driving licence
  • Must have no criminal record or pending criminal case
  • Must have a minimum of 1-year practical experience in the field of Traffic Law Enforcement Operations
  • Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and report writing skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape

Competencies

  • Knowledge of the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA), National Land Traffic Act (NLTA) 5/9, National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) 0, and Criminal procedures Act (CPA)
  • Defensive driving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with conflict
