Job Purpose

As a Sommelier at Fempower, you will be responsible for overseeing the wine service and ensuring a premium experience for our guests. This role involves creating and updating wine lists, making recommendations on food and wine pairings, and advising guests on wines based on their personal tastes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain wine menus in coordination with chefs and the Food and Beverage Operations Manager.
  • Train waitrons on available wines and how they should be served.
  • Negotiate purchase prices with vendors and oversee all wine purchased and cost management in line with budgets.
  • Organize wine tasting days or 'wine of the month' events and present results on wine product performance.
  • Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware, and store open bottles properly to maintain strong taste.
  • Manage the wine cellar and ensure par levels of stock are available on guests' requests.
  • Monitor standards in wine cellar, fridges, and stores in line with hotel FCS, ensuring audit targets are achieved.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in food and beverage with 3 years as a wine steward.
  • Previous experience as a sommelier is an advantage.
  • Strong English communication skills, wine product knowledge, passion for wine, and knowledge of food and beverage pairings.
  • Proficient computer skills – MS Office and F&B software systems, and business & financial acumen.
  • Stakeholder management and ability to work with the F&B Operations Manager to develop F&B SOPs for wine service.
