Job Title: IR Officer

A leading specialist warehouse and distribution company is seeking an experienced and customer service-oriented IR Officer to join their team in Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Render sound labour relations to minimize conflict, increase productivity, and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain good and fair labour relation practices to ACMS and clients.
  • Develop and maintain a high-performance, productive, responsive, and flexible workforce through sound human resource management and employee relations principles.
  • Manage the delivery of personnel services to a workforce of over 600 employees.
  • Oversee and get involved with disciplinary proceedings, grievances, desertions, counselling, informal and formal hearings.
  • Facilitate disciplinary enquiries, appeals, grievances, and CCMA cases.
  • Maintain the IR tracker and advise employees and management on disciplinary processes and procedures.
  • Attend CCMA when required on conciliation and arbitration.
  • Assist with the documentation for arbitration and liaise with union officials and representatives when required.
  • Coordinate all external referred disputes, including Labour Court and CCMA.
  • Arrange and collate background information on disputes and conduct preliminary investigations and compile background reports for submission to Bargaining Council.
  • Research relevant case law, liaise with labour experts, and compile case reports in preparation of disputes for either arbitration or CCMA.
  • Ensure formal engagement between labour and employer for purposes of consultation and negotiation.
  • Give advice to management, staff, and unions on labour-related matters and evaluate policies and procedures in line with labour legislation.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with unions, management, and councillors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant collective agreements.
  • Monitor and give advice on the handling of disciplinary hearings and incapacity hearings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Labour Relations Training.
  • Implement and maintain strike contingency plans.
  • Keep records of daily Labour Relations-related activities, update records, and files to maintain a database of labour matters.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 with Labour Law or IR qualification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of Labour Relations experience, with extensive exposure to CCMA, conciliation, arbitration, unions, etc.
  • Proven experience in managing the delivery of personnel services to a workforce of over 600 employees.
  • Experience within the distribution and logistics sector will be an added advantage.
