Product Development Manager

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute the product development strategy for new and existing product ranges, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market trends.
  • Optimize product cost and improve product quality through collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Monitor team projects and activities to achieve strategic objectives, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards.
  • Perform evaluations of new materials and suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Manage the engineering change process, ensuring seamless implementation and minimal disruption to production.
  • Lead projects with multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and driving innovation.
  • Conduct FMEA studies and address issues raised, ensuring product safety and quality.
  • Develop test methods and perform product testing for approval, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform and approve initial sample inspection reports (ISIR), ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies, identifying best practices and areas for improvement.
  • Manage all information, documentation, and drawings related to the department, ensuring compliance with company policies and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Manage the thermodynamic test laboratory, ensuring accurate and reliable test results.
  • Interpret thermodynamics test results and provide solutions for improvement, driving business growth through innovation.
  • Provide support to production with product, process, quality, and equipment-related issues, ensuring seamless production and quality standards.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory specifications and ensure product compliance, minimizing risk and ensuring business growth.
  • Perform and support the Letter of Authority application process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 standards is an advantage, driving business growth through innovation and quality.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve departmental work standards and procedures, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform any other product development and design functions as may be necessary, driving business growth through innovation and quality.
Financial Responsibilities:
  • Develop the department budget, project, and capital expenses, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market trends.
  • Approval of purchases, ensuring compliance with company policies and financial procedures.
  • Adhere to financial policies and procedures, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Safety, Health, and Environment:
  • Ensure staff works safely according to safety policies, standards, and laws, minimizing risk and ensuring business growth.
  • Identify potential hazards and critical safety issues in the workplace, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Always ensure a clean and organized work environment, promoting a positive and productive work culture.
People Management:
  • Lead the Product Development Team to achieve organizational objectives, fostering collaboration and driving innovation.
  • Determine resource requirements for the function, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market trends.
  • Compile and update individual development plans and facilitate individual careers, driving business growth through talent development.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage sub-standard performance, ensuring accountability and transparency.
  • Ensure that all employee resources within the Department are optimally utilized, driving business growth through efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Chair disciplinary inquiries, ensuring fairness and transparency.
  • Maintain and encompass the company corporate values, promoting a positive and productive work culture.
Educational Requirements:
  • BSc/BTech/BEng Mechanical Engineering, ensuring a strong foundation in product development and innovation.
  • CAD, Solid Works is an advantage, driving business growth through innovation and quality.
  • High level of computer literacy, ensuring efficient and effective use of technology.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge is an advantage, driving business growth through innovation and quality.
Experience:
  • 5+ years manufacturing environment experience, ensuring a strong foundation in product development and innovation.
  • 2+ years at management level or 4+ years leading multidisciplinary teams and projects, driving business growth through leadership and innovation.
  • Experience in People Leadership must have led small teams, ensuring effective leadership and talent development.
  • Experience in Project Management, ensuring efficient and effective project delivery.
  • Design for manufacturing principles, driving business growth through innovation and quality.
  • Lean manufacturing principles, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in production.
  • Cost-based approach, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial management.
  • Apply known problem-solving techniques, driving business growth through innovation and quality.
  • Ability to work in a unionized environment, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (both written and verbal), driving business growth through effective communication and collaboration.
