This role is based in Amandelbult Complex, Thabazimbi, South Africa. Job Description The role of the Environmental Officer is to support the Environmental Advisor (General)/Environmental Superintendent/SHE manager/specialist in the execution of their work accountability and through execution of day-to-day tasks needed to maintain the operation's environmental management system. Roles And Responsibilities Conduct effective safety shares at the start of all meetings Execution of day-to-day tasks needed to maintain the operation's Environmental Management System (EMS-ISO 14001) Day to day work management oversight of the site’s Environmental Interns Conduct environmental inspections and take action to address outcomes – including development of short-term improvement plans Assist in maintaining a list of material environmental risks Assist in implementing and field verifying critical controls for each material environmental risk Assist with internal and external communications and engagement obligations regarding site environmental compliance, including hosting regulatory site visits, preparing reports, etc. Accurately, timely capture of environmental compliance data on relevant systems (including inspections and audit programs for site) Completing environmental incident reporting and investigations Assisting with environmental impact assessments Assist in implementing the Environmental Monitoring Program for the site (by conducting monitoring and/or overseeing monitoring conducted by third parties) Assisting with environmental awareness training Assist with compilation of environmental training and awareness programmes and materials. Perform environmental training and awareness drives with employees, contractors and in local communities Conduct internal audits for environmental licenses and permit compliance. Support the implementation of improvement plans to address identified compliance gaps Assist to identify, classify and report Environmental Incidents and Environmental Hazards across the site Take part in investigations of environmental incidents as per procedure/plan Assist with monitoring progress against environmental targets and key risks Provide input on environmental reports for meetings as required. Take part and support regular meetings with regulators/authorities and local communities Qualifications Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management/Science Completed relevant short courses, such as Environmental law, ISO14001 and Auditing Experience At least 3 years’ working experience in a Mining related field Knowledge And Skills Computer literacy: MS Office Valid driver’s license Additional Information At Valterra Platinum, you will join a team committed to excellence and impact.
