About Our Company North-West University (Vanderbijlpark Campus) – Faculty of Humanities – School of Languages. Job Description Purpose of the Position To teach English linguistics (specifically syntax and morphology components) and lead the linguistics “division” of the English subject group in terms of teaching & learning and research at the Vanderbijlpark campus. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning Teach English linguistics modules at undergraduate and honours levels, focusing on syntax, morphology, and semantics. Supervise M.A. and Ph.D. students in linguistics. Conduct team teaching, student evaluations, assignments, tests and examinations, and postgraduate supervision. Complete related administrative tasks such as managing marks and monitoring student progress. Set and mark assessments. Hold office hours for student consultations. Attend meetings with the subject group, teaching team, and/or module tutors. Act as module convenor across the three NWU sites. Moderate assessments internally. Maintain module files for internal and external programme evaluation. Research and Innovation Contribute to the School of Languages research output by publishing in accredited journals. Present at national and international conferences. Social Responsiveness Participate in relevant community engagement projects. Occupational Health and Safety Collaborate with management, OHS officials and colleagues to meet legal requirements and uphold occupational health and safety standards. Minimum Requirements Ph.D. (NQF level 10) in English Linguistics or English Applied Linguistics. At least three (3) years of teaching, learning and research experience at a local or tertiary institution. At least two published articles in accredited journals. Evidence of postgraduate supervision experience. Added Advantage Membership of local and/or international linguistics associations. Key Functional and Technical Competencies Excellent English language and communication skills. Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with technology for blended teaching, assessment, and course material development. Linguistic theory knowledge applied to English linguistic analysis. Computer literacy: LMS systems, MS Teams, Outlook, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to perform administrative tasks, attend workshops, seminars and conferences. Behavioural Competencies Good interpersonal skills and teamwork. Professional work ethic. Willingness to work with diverse students. Adherence to deadlines.
