Requirements Medically fit to work in the specific business area. At least 3‑5 years underground mining experience. Mechanical Foreman’s Certificate of Competence or the ability to obtain one within 12‑24 months. Valid Artisan Trade Certificate (Section 13 or 26D) with proof of a formal learnership programme. National N2 Certificate or higher with a suitable mechanical background. Clear security screening record. Valid driver’s licence (if applicable). Key Responsibilities Administrative duties. Review Shift Communication Log book for reported issues and special instructions. Determine material allocations based on the Bill of Materials. Verify statutory and daily examination records. Responsible for project controls, cost estimates, quantity take‑offs and manpower requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders. Analyse reports, maps, drawings, tests and other data to plan and design work. Coordinate day‑to‑day mechanical activities and monitor plant performance. Write daily and weekly reports and investigate operations within area of control. Attend meetings and communicate with teams continuously. Control and distribute stock within area of responsibility; oversee equipment maintenance and optimisation. Contribute to scheduling planned maintenance of equipment and decide on relevant maintenance types. Oversee maintenance processes, providing support and coaching to subordinates. Conduct random inspections of tasks performed by subordinates. Ensure breakdowns are repaired. Conduct task analyses and take appropriate action to address identified risks. Plan, execute and supervise all day‑to‑day processes and maintenance activities within area of responsibility (risk assessments). Conduct baseline and issue‑based risk assessments and investigations into workplace incidents. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels. Ensure open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders. Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers. Liaise on environmental management requirements and alignment where applicable. Collaborate with external service providers on tool design and implementation. Financial Management – set and approve budgeting parameters, approve operational expenditure, formulate monthly and annual budgets, and report on variances. Lead cost‑saving and cash‑conservation initiatives; remain competitive on the global cost curve for surface operations. Build a values‑based organisational culture; support the execution of the segment‑specific organisational development plan. Align to ESG compliance, including World Gold Council Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs) and eTfS initiatives. Maintain and comply with SHE standards; ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Instil a culture of SHE leadership; participate in regional/local decision‑making forums to support long‑term sustainability. Provide SHE leadership within the unit; monitor compliance to SHE requirements; carry accountability for safe target achievement. Develop a pro‑active approach to all safety issues. Quality Management System – approve department documents, comply with QMS requirements, manage documentation and records, improve effectiveness and efficiency, maintain and update policies and procedures, conduct internal audits. Focus on safe production, operational excellence, safety, health and global industry cost competitiveness. People Management – provide coaching and on‑the‑job training, manage performance and development of staff, ensure fair work allocation, inspire high performance. Additional Requirements Minimum of 1‑2 years of relevant experience in the field of the applied position would be advantageous.
