The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy. The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is seeking to employ an experienced academic at the rank of Lecturer in Mathematics or Mathematics Education. The Department has an active research programme covering various fields including Algebra, Topology, Coding Theory, Graph Theory, Category Theory, Mathematical Physics, Computational Finance, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Biology, and Mathematics Education. The department plays a vital role in a research‑intensive university, focusing on both Pure and Applied Mathematics research, as well as teaching mathematics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences and providing undergraduate service courses throughout the university. The ideal candidate is expected to bring experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to this role. A vacancy exists in the department for a Lecturer to teach Mathematics in the Extended Curriculum Programme. Key Responsibilities Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Conduct research and publish on topics related to Mathematics or Mathematics Education Undertake undergraduate and/or postgraduate supervision Undertake curriculum development and assessment Undertake community engagement and outreach Minimum Requirements MSc in Mathematics and currently registered for a PhD with a clear completion plan Demonstrated teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels A record of successful postgraduate supervision at the honours level Evidence of research output in the form of research publication(s) in accredited journals Advantageous Criteria Experience in teaching mathematics in an Extended Curriculum Programme Experience in teaching mathematics and applied mathematics beyond first‑year Experience in educational or academic development work Experience in working in a team Competencies Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment Student‑focused approach Ability and interest to supervise at the postgraduate level specialising in industry‑directed research Planning and organising skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Presentation and facilitation skills Knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas: learning and teaching, research and scholarship, and community engagement Application In your application, you are encouraged to highlight your strengths and include anything else you deem exceptional and outstanding to be considered by the selection panel.
