Description The opportunity You as a Senior Project Engineer will be part of Hitachi Energy business based in Modderfontein, South Africa. A Specialist Professional is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. How you'll make an impact You will have hands‑on experience with high voltage protection and control system engineering design, including schematics preparation, review of engineering documents, protection relay configuration, testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting. You will have power system, substation, and MV / HV switchgear knowledge, which is an advantage. Familiarity with substation automation systems, Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and Gateways will be a key differentiator. You will be conversant with design tools like AutoCAD or equivalent for substation layouts, cable schedules, wiring, and termination charts. You will have good verbal and written communication skills, which are essential, and a proven ability to handle customer comments and approval responses to support the project manager in project engineering is a must. Acting as the champion for Hitachi Energy processes and policies, you will contribute to the development of standard processes and work instructions by adopting Hitachi internal as well as industry best practices. You will ensure lessons learned from all execution are analyzed, and conclusions are incorporated as continuous improvement actions. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Your background A bachelor's degree in engineering, majoring in Electrical or Automation Control, or a similar field, is required. Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in the SAS / SCADA domain is required. Knowledge of substation primary equipment and basic protection functions is desirable.
