Facade Designer

The Opportunity We have an opportunity for a talented Project Facade Specialist with key focus in facade design, specification, and assessment to join our team in Cape Town. Work will cover all façade types – glazing, curtain wall, cladding – using a variety of systems and materials on a wide range of building typologies. The successful candidate will become a permanent member of our creative, friendly, international team and will work on some of the most exciting buildings in the world, including international airports, high-rise commercial and residential towers, prominent buildings in cities and international stadia. Key Responsibilities You will develop excellent facade solutions in collaboration with other facade specialists and guide them through from concept, through tender documents, mock-ups, testing, fabrication and installation. You will develop facade designs, prepare details, study materials and systems, contribute to specifications, review contractor submissions and conduct inspections of fabrication and installation. The role also includes inspection and investigation of existing buildings. You will be part of the wider facade team, developing design solutions in collaboration with other specialists from concept to implementation, including review and comment on detailed designs generated by specialist façade contractors. You will work in a team and engage directly with our clients, architects, contractors and supply chain. You will manage several projects running in parallel at various stages of the project life. You will produce drawings, reports, specifications, and correspondence and help our project managers manage time and budget. Is this role right for you? We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented designer, architect, building physics or sustainability specialist developing design, technical, and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary design teams, taking projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results. Candidate Profile Degree in a technical engineering field or architecture. 2+ years of experience in construction design. Good working knowledge of national and international design codes and technical guidance. Knowledge of detail design, structural and building physics, testing, inspections and investigations, and site experience. Skills in CAD and 3D modelling software such as Rhino.
