Introduction African Languages and Literacy Training Institute (ALLT Institute) is a literacy and numeracy organisation based in Johannesburg but operating across the nine South African provinces. We are seeking a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to drive the M&E implementation of the Thungela Education Initiative, Grade 1-4, through the implementation of literacy and numeracy teacher training and coaching interventions in the Mpumalanga Province. The intervention will be based in the two Mpumalanga Districts, namely, Nkangala and Gert Sibande Districts. The duration of the programme is three years Please note that this is a fixed term contract. Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Monitoring & Evaluation System Development Design and implement M&E frameworks, tools, and processes aligned to the education programme's objectives. Develop indicators, baselines, and performance measurement plans to track learner outcomes, teacher development, and programme delivery. Support integration of M&E activities into day-to-day programme implementation. Data Collection & Management Oversee accurate and timely collection of quantitative and qualitative data across all programme sites. Train field staff, teachers, and partners in data collection methods, tools, and reporting requirements. Ensure data quality through verification, audits, and adherence to standards. Manage programme databases and digital data collection systems. Analysis & Reporting Conduct data analysis to track progress against targets and outcomes. Prepare regular monitoring reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal use, donors, and partners. Highlight programme achievements, challenges, and lessons learned to inform adaptive management. Evaluation & Learning Support design and coordination of baseline, midline, and endline evaluations. Facilitate participatory reflection and learning sessions with programme staff, teachers, and stakeholders. Document and share case studies, success stories, and best practices. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with programme teams, government education departments, schools, and implementing partners to strengthen M&E capacity. Represent the programme in M&E working groups, donor meetings, and external forums as required. Desired Experience & Qualification Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in education, Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or related field (Master's preferred). Minimum 5 years' experience in M&E, preferably within education or development programmes. Must be in possession of a valid driver's licence. Strong skills in data collection, survey design, and statistical/qualitative analysis. Proficiency in data management and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS, STATA, NVivo, Kobo Toolbox, DHIS2). Experience with digital monitoring systems and mobile data collection platforms. Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities. Knowledge of national education policies and frameworks is an advantage. Analytical thinking and problem-solving. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences. Collaborative, adaptable, and proactive approach.
