AltGen is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our renewable energy company based in Pretoria and Stellenbosch. The role will lead the design, integration, and optimisation of PV and BES systems for C&I and smaller‑scale IPP projects. The role will also focus on developing technical energy systems, including instrumentation, energy management systems, and controls. This position can be based in Pretoria or Stellenbosch. Key Responsibilities Lead full design lifecycle from concept to detailed design to IFC stage Prepare system schematics, SDLs, control drawings and instrumentation layouts Design control, protection and monitoring systems including PLCs, SCADA and EMS Ensure compliance with applicable SANS, IEC and NRS standards, and utility interconnection requirements Perform system sizing, energy modelling, and operational simulations (e.g., peak shaving, load shifting, grid support) Define technical specifications for BESS components – battery modules, PCS, EMS, and communication systems Evaluate BMS and inverter performance and ensure proper integration with PV and DG systems Develop control logic and operating strategies for hybrid and grid‑interactive systems Define and implement communication and instrumentation architectures (Modbus, TCP/IP, RS485, etc.) Develop EMS configuration logic to enable intelligent dispatch, demand management, and performance tracking Oversee SCADA and control system integration and commissioning Validate metering and control data integrity across multiple system layers Support bid compilation by conducting feasibility and techno‑economic assessments, preparing designs, cost inputs and interfacing with suppliers Provide technical oversight during construction, FAT, and commissioning phases Qualifications & Experience BEng/BSc in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in PV, hybrid and BESS design and integration Proficiency with PVSyst, ETAP/DIgSILENT and AutoCAD Strong understanding of utility interconnection and grid code compliance processes Seniority Level Mid‑Senior level Employment Type Full‑time Job Function Design and Engineering Industry Services for Renewable Energy #J-18808-Ljbffr
