Responsibilities The Plumber reports to the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance and installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems and fixtures in residential, commercial, industrial, or public buildings. The Plumber reads blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste and drainage systems. The Plumber plans and installs plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment, and controls. Plumbing systems transport water, waste, gases, or hot liquids. Plumbers work under the direction of the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance, cooperating with other trades and laborers to ensure all specifications, legislation, and policies are met and that projects are completed efficiently. Providing adequate services ensures that all water supply networks and waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired, and maintained to meet all building code and safety standards. Qualifications High School graduate or Equivalency Diploma plus one year of advanced trade school or three years of experience in maintenance field. Journeyman Certification in Plumbing from a recognized and accredited post‑secondary institution. Ability to work cooperatively with other trades, strong team building skills, analytical and problem‑solving skills, decision‑making skills, effective verbal presentation and listening skills, and negotiation and mediation skills. Proven leadership skills with ability to coordinate work responsibilities and influence individuals’ efforts during assignments. Effective written communication skills, including proficiency in computerized accounting, spreadsheets, database, and Word processing programs; stress management and time management skills. Proficient knowledge of water distribution and wastewater disposal in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures for installation and maintenance.
