Overview The Information Regulator (Regulator) is a juristic person established in terms of Section 39 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of POPIA. It is independent and impartial, accountable to the National Assembly, and has jurisdiction throughout the Republic of South Africa. The Regulator promotes and protects the right to privacy as it relates to the protection of personal information and the right of access to information. It operates in accordance with POPIA and the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of PAIA. The Regulator consists of five Members: the Chairperson and four ordinary Members appointed for a five-year term. The Chairperson and two ordinary Members are full-time; the other two ordinary Members are part-time. Section 47 of POPIA empowers the Regulator to establish its own administration, and it must appoint the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and other staff to assist in performing its functions. The Head Office is in Woodmead, Johannesburg. Centre: Head Office: Woodmead, Johannesburg. Salary Level: 11. Salary: R (all-inclusive package and not negotiable). The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement annually. Requirements Matric certificate plus an LLB Degree as recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA); minimum five years post-qualification experience in conducting investigations, of which three years must be at junior management, preferably in a regulatory environment. Admission as a Legal Practitioner will be an added advantage; a driver's licence will be an added advantage. Skills and Competencies Knowledge of the Protection of Personal Information Act No. 4 of POPIA and its Regulations Knowledge of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of PAIA and its Regulations Knowledge of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act of 1994 Knowledge of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act 3 of 2002 Good knowledge and understanding of the law of evidence Ability to work under pressure, work independently and in a team, conduct basic research. Strong office management, administration, and telephone etiquette. Computer literacy with advanced knowledge of Microsoft packages and good typing skills; time management, analytical skills, attention to detail, interpersonal relationships, excellent written and verbal communication with proven report-writing experience. Key Performance Areas Manage investigations and provide guidance to Investigation Officers in relation thereto Manage the implementation of the recommendations contained in the investigation reports Quality assure and/or draft investigation reports Develop tools, procedures, strategies, and policies for successful resolution of complaints Manage and handle complaints Manage resolution of complaints Support Senior Management in interaction with clients and other relevant stakeholders Effectively and efficiently manage all resources allocated to the Sub-Division Liaise directly with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure PAIA compliance Various other duties as may be determined from time to time by the Regulator Applications Applications for this position must be submitted by email as follows: Important instructions to candidates: all the above-mentioned positions are permanent, and appointments will be made in terms of Section 47 of POPIA as the enabling Act.
