Overview Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor - Department of Construction Economics (1 post) Job Location: Gauteng, Pretoria Responsibilities Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the built environment, based on the department’s degree programmes. Develop a research programme in an appropriate area of expertise, or expand existing research programmes. Publish research articles in the foremost national or international accredited journals. Supervise postgraduate master’s and doctoral students within the research focus areas. Perform assigned departmental duties of an administrative nature. Participate in the department’s community service programmes. Minimum Requirements Lecturer BSc Hons degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management. Completed Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree. At least three years of tertiary education experience or industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education. 1 publication (peer‑reviewed article or conference paper) or book chapter(s) or recognized industry outputs. Senior Lecturer All Lecturer requirements plus a PhD following the previous qualification. At least five years of tertiary education experience or industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education. At least two articles published in DHET‑accredited journals or a DHET‑accredited book. At least two other publication outputs (peer‑reviewed conference paper(s)/book chapter(s)/industry‑recognized outputs). Supervision or co‑supervision of master’s students to completion or proven industry management experience. Associate Professor All Senior Lecturer requirements plus a PhD/Doctorate in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management or related. At least six years of tertiary education experience or industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education. Experience in curriculum / strategy development and innovation. Sustained publications output with at least 12 DHET‑accredited publications (at least 3 within the last five years). Majority of recent publications in WoS / Scopus / IBSS journals. Evidence of supervising or co‑supervising at least 3 research master’s or 6 coursework master’s mini‑dissertations. Evidence of doctoral student supervision and reviewer duties for journals and/or conferences. NRF rating preferred at this level. Professor All Associate Professor requirements plus at least 8 to 10 years of tertiary education and / or industry experience. Experience in curriculum development and innovation. Well‑established, internationally recognised research record with at least 18 DHET‑accredited publications (at least 5 within the last five years). Evidence of successful doctoral student completion and reviewer duties for ISI / Scopus indexed journals. International conference papers delivered. NRF rating required. Required Competencies Ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate classes. Thorough knowledge of commercial and specialised property valuation for Real Estate. Thorough knowledge of property management of green buildings. Proficiency in MS Office programmes such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Orientation in using electronic technologies and aids in the construction or property industry. Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team. Capability to operate collaboratively in multidisciplinary activities. Added Advantages and Preferences Evidence of teaching excellence. Preference for candidates with teaching and research expertise that complement the department’s needs. Related industry work or consulting experience. NRF rating or application for one.
