The candidate will actively support and contribute to the University’s vision to become a leading research university in Africa. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in agricultural economics, supervising postgraduate students, and establishing a research programme aligned with the Department’s and Faculty’s strategic direction. Responsibilities Teaching modules such as Econometrics, Macroeconomic Modeling, Quantitative Methods for Agricultural/Food Policy Analysis, International Trade, Multi-Market Models and Impact Evaluation in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Conducting research applying CGE, Multi-Market Modelling, Partial Equilibrium Modelling and related quantitative methods. Postgraduate supervision at Honours, Masters and PhD levels. Building and maintaining industry and policy-making stakeholder linkages. Developing a substantial, funded research programme; raising funds for research. Community engagement. Academic administration. Minimum Requirements Senior Lecturer: PhD in Economics/Agricultural Economics/Development Economics or related field. Five (5) years teaching and research experience in the mentioned subject areas. At least ten (10) publications in accredited journals. Evidence of successful supervision/co-supervision of MSc students. Evidence of community engagement and project leadership. Associate Professor: All Senior Lecturer requirements plus three (3) more years of relevant tertiary teaching and curriculum development experience. Academic status and national recognition. Proven research and publication track record in national and international peer‑reviewed journals. Proven track record of successful supervision of Masters and PhD students. Proven track record of international research collaboration and successful acquisition of external research grants. Professor: All Associate Professor requirements plus proven graduation record of PhD students. Two (2) more years of teaching and research experience. Well‑established and internationally recognised research record. Evidence of designing and implementing own curriculum content. Required Competencies Research and teaching experience in Quantitative Methods for Agricultural Policy Analysis, Macroeconomics, International Trade, Multi‑market Modelling, Partial Equilibrium Modelling. Teamwork and communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Skilled at managing diversity. Ability to lead research and teaching programmes. Capacity to raise funds. Added Advantages and Preferences Active engagement with the food/agricultural sector and policy‑making environment in South Africa and Africa. Practical experience with social accounting matrix, local and regional macroeconomic environment. Appropriate NRF rating or equivalent. Practical experience with computer programmes such as MATLAB, GAMS. Remuneration and Benefits Annual remuneration will be commensurate with the applicant’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
