Position Professor / Associate Professor (Information Studies), Discipline of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, Pietermaritzburg Campus (1 post) Location: Pietermaritzburg • Contract: Permanent • Remuneration: Market‑related • Employment equity: Yes • Introduction: College of Humanities, University of KwaZulu‑Natal Job Description The University of KwaZulu‑Natal is one of the top universities in South Africa and globally. Responsibilities include contributing to teaching and research within the discipline of Political Science – Information Studies and related disciplines such as International Relations, Policy Studies, and/or Political Theory. The incumbent will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development and supervise postgraduate students. Facilitating dynamic interaction between the curriculum and real‑world applications is expected. Minimum Requirements (Professor) A PhD degree in Information Science/Studies or any information‑related discipline. At least 9 years of working and relevant experience in teaching, research, or industry. Excellent and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals. Excellent and sustained track record of successful attraction of external research grants. Excellent and sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level. Evidence of national and international recognition in a research area within the discipline. Evidence of strong and sustained academic leadership within the department, school, college or university, including mentorship and coaching. Minimum Requirements (Associate Professor) A PhD degree in Information Science/Studies or any information‑related discipline. At least 6 years of working and relevant experience in teaching, research, or industry. Current and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals. Sustained and successful attraction of external research grants. Successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level. National and international recognition in a research area within the discipline. Strong and sustained academic leadership within the department, school, college or university, including mentorship and coaching.
