Specialist: Backup and Storage (Commvault) BCX Bellville, Western Cape, South Africa Backup & Infrastructure Systems Engineer (Commvault) – Backup and/or Storage | Western Cape Based | Fixed Term Contract | Immediate Start Core Purpose We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backup and/or Storage Systems Engineer (Commvault) to join our dynamic technology team in the Western Cape . This is a Fixed Term Contract opportunity, and we are looking for someone who is available to start immediately . In this role, you will be responsible for installing, monitoring, testing, and maintaining cloud and infrastructure solutions, with a strong focus on backup and storage technologies . You will also provide expert technical support, proactive troubleshooting, and strategic recommendations to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, maintain, and administer enterprise backup and storage software solutions. Execute backup and storage changes through the Change Management process, ensuring successful completion within agreed service windows. Diagnose and resolve complex issues within backup and storage environments, ensuring optimal performance and availability. Perform system administration for backup and storage platforms, maintaining reliability, data integrity, and compliance. Analyze current infrastructure, providing insights and recommendations for performance optimization and capacity planning. Collaborate with internal support teams and external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, providing detailed root cause analysis and preventative solutions. Plan, test, and apply software patches, upgrades, and updates to maintain system integrity and meet compliance standards. Review and optimize backup and storage schedules, policies, and operational procedures according to best practices and regulatory requirements. Produce and maintain documentation, including backup and restore reports (SLA metrics, job status, capacity usage, etc.). Document operational processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and efficiency. Participate in disaster recovery testing and exercises to ensure data resilience and business continuity. Core Skills & Technical Competencies Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across backup and storage environments. Comprehensive understanding of ICT infrastructure technologies. High attention to detail and structured problem-solving approach. Hands‑on experience with enterprise‑grade backup and/or storage platforms (Commvault, Veritas, Veeam, etc.). Proven ability to manage hybrid environments (on‑premises, virtualized, and cloud). Applying Expertise and Technology Deciding and Initiating Action Delivering Results and Meeting Customer Expectations Following Instructions and Procedures Working Collaboratively with People Professionalism, Accountability, and Reliability Qualifications Minimum: NQF Level 6: 3-year Degree or National Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science OR NQF Level 4: Grade 12 with equivalent experience Preferred (Advantageous): NQF Level 6: 3-year Degree or National Diploma in Engineering Experience Minimum 5 years of hands‑on system engineering experience, OR 7 years of relevant experience for candidates with Grade 12.
