General Assistant (External Applications Only) Cashbuild is seeking a General Assistant for a dynamic retail environment. Job Overview Provide comprehensive customer service in the store, ensuring merchandise is properly stocked, priced, and presented. Maintain housekeeping standards and safety protocols across designated areas. Responsibilities Advise and assist customers with product information and queries. Resolve customer complaints promptly. Merchandise bulk stock area safely according to store layout plans. Ensure shelves are properly labeled and the area is free of obstacles. Complete housekeeping tasks such as stocking receipt and maintaining aisle safety. Follow safety (OHSA) compliance, use protective gear, and report discrepancies. Manage stock loss and report damaged items to the Store Manager. Key Performance Areas Customer Service Advise and assist customers on correct products and queries. Resolve customer complaints. Merchandising Standards Merchandise bulk stock area safely and according to the store layout plan. Ensure full merchandising according to store layout and planograms. Housekeeping Maintain obstacle‑free aisles, immediate stocking after receipt, and safe customer navigation. Correct shelf price labeling within area of responsibility. Ensure checklist completion per canteen and toilet/showers schedule. Safety (OHSA) Requirements Compliance with safety gear and customer/staff safety. Safe merchandising of bulk stock within store. Report discrepancies to Store Manager. Manage stock loss and report damaged stock. Values Integrity Comply with generally accepted standards in activities related to the position. Keep promises. Create realistic expectations. Be sincere. Handle sensitive information carefully. Show awareness of values and recognize boundary crossings. Accuracy Handle detailed information effectively and attentively. Work in an orderly manner. Ensure matters are handled accurately from start to finish. Prevent mistakes. Check work for errors. Requirements Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with 1 year related work experience, or Grade 12 without related experience. Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language in the area. Valid South African ID or work permit. Ability to perform basic calculations accurately. Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays. Ability to work under pressure.
